About the Artist:
Itzchak Fleisheker was born in 1957 in Serbia, Ukraine. From 1980 to 1984, he studied at the Minsk Institute of Art in Belarus, where he specialized in monumental art and large-scale wall painting.
In 1990, Fleisheker immigrated to Israel and established his home in Haifa. His artistic background in monumental painting strongly influences his approach to composition, scale, color, and surface.
One of the defining characteristics of Fleisheker's work is his extraordinary use of texture. He combines traditional oil painting with unconventional materials and techniques, including sand, plaster, and coarse brushes, building surfaces that rise noticeably from the canvas. This gives his paintings a distinctive tactile quality and a strong physical presence.
Fleisheker is also deeply influenced by the unique light and colors of the Land of Israel. His palette reflects the warmth of Jerusalem and the Mediterranean landscape, while his subjects are often suggested rather than explicitly described.
