Menachem Safrai

Meet

Menachem Safrai is the third-generation owner of Safrai Gallery, a cornerstone of Israeli art that has been passed down since 1935. Founded by his great-grandfather, Asher, Safrai Gallery began as a small space on Jaffa Street (now continues as an online gallery), offering a unique selection of Israeli art that blends diverse styles, techniques, and media. Menachem's father instilled in him the belief that "the customer is always right," a guiding principle that still drives the gallery today.

However, the past year has been filled with unimaginable hardships. After October 7, Menachem served in the army for 255 days, and during this time, the gallery saw an 80% decline in sales.

Yet, the most profound loss came on October 24, 2024, when Menachem's son, Alon, was killed in action at 28. Alon, a beloved figure known for his humor, warmth, and dedication to helping others, had volunteered with Magen David Adom from a young age and later served as an officer in the army.

Today, the gallery stands as a tribute to both Menachem's family legacy and Alon’s memory. Through his art, Menachem aims to honor his son's spirit, continuing to bring beauty to the world in the face of tragedy.

The Safrai family launched a fundraising campaign to purchase an ambulance and MDA intensive care motorcycle in Alon’s honor. They are continuing to fund life-saving resources.
