Moran Gil
Meet
On June 16, 2025, a missile struck just one block from Moran Gil’s beloved bakery, “Cakery”, on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv. The explosion damaged nearly every business on the block, including his.
Just one day earlier, Moran had shared a heartfelt video about the impossible balance of running a business during war: caring for his staff, his kids, his customers — all while missiles threatened overhead.
“I don’t have the energy to fight in so many directions at once,” he said. “But I’m healthy, my kids are safe, and I have work to do.”
When the missile hit, Moran rushed to assess the damage. He swept up glass, salvaged what he could, and took photos for reimbursement from the government — anything to reopen.
And he did — in less than 24 hours.
Alongside his staff, Moran baked through the night. By morning, Cakery was open again, and the line down the street proved what we already know: Israelis choose life, sweetness, and hope — even in the darkest moments.
Meet Moran
Baking is in Moran’s blood — his mother was a pastry chef, and he grew up surrounded by sweets in northern Israel. Before COVID-19, he worked in advertising, but as the world shut down, he began sharing his cakes online. Orders rolled in, and soon after, Cakery was born.
Despite the ongoing war, Moran continued to grow his thriving business, creating seasonal treats — including a special Pride Month cake, launched just days before the Tel Aviv parade was canceled due to rising tensions.
