Laliv Shalev
Meet
Laliv Shalev is the designer and founder of StudioBALADI, a jewelry brand she launched in 2012. After nearly 20 years in Tel Aviv, she returned to her childhood kibbutz in the Western Galilee, where she now creates and produces jewelry in her studio.
Her design language is rooted in raw, unrefined materials—organic, handmade, and only occasionally symmetrical. In late 2023, Laliv decided to open a small boutique, but as renovations began, the war broke out. Living in the north, there was a period in the early days of the war when she could only work a few hours a week while caring for her five-year-old twins. Now that some quiet has returned, she can finally breathe and create again.
As an industrial designer, Shalev was exposed to a wide range of manufacturing technologies, materials, and tools—an interest that continues to influence her work today. When introducing a new tool into her studio, she often allows it to shape her next collection, exploring its possibilities beyond conventional use. “My most successful pieces aren’t ones I planned perfectly but those that emerged through the process itself,” she shared.
Despite the challenges since the start of the war, she explored new designs, particularly Jewish symbols. Today, she focuses on creating meaningful, timeless pieces—jewelry meant to be worn for life.
