Moran Gil
Meet
On June 16, 2025, a missile struck just one block from Moran Gil’s beloved Cakery on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv. The explosion damaged nearly every business on the block — including Moran’s. The day before his store was damaged, Moran uploaded a video talking about the complexities of running a business during this time, the responsibilities towards staff, his own family & kids, customers, and asking people to leave their homes to come bake when missiles could be flying overhead at any moment. He said “I don’t have any energy to fight anymore in so many different directions at once – I’m totally not complaining, I’m healthy, my kids are safe with the family, I have employees and lots of work.” But the complexity of “functioning” in this very complex time is something that no Israeli can ignore.
But in a powerful act of resilience, Moran reopened his doors less than 24 hours later, after he and his employees worked all day and night, determined to keep baking for his community. Well known for his tarts and specialtyHis cakes and now for his courage and determination, he , cookies, and courage drew a line down the street — a reminder that even in the darkest moments, Israelis choose life, sweetness, and hope.
Baking runs in Moran’s family, his mother was a pastry chef and he grew up in the north of Israel surrounded by sweets. He wasn't always a confectioner though. Before Covid-19, he worked in advertising, but once Covid hit he began posting his creations on instagram and orders kept coming in. Until finally he needed a bigger space and he opened up his bakery in his neighborhood - Cakery and was thriving within a year and a half, despite the ongoing war.
He debuted a special cake in honor of pride month and the much anticipated pride parade that was subsequently cancelled due.
Now, we're honoring Moran, his team, and the many small businesses impacted by this war — and you can help.

Displaced families across Israel
Vulnerable citizens affected by the war
